Time to use extra caution during darker hours

With recent end to daylight savings time, we all need to remember to adjust our driving habits so we can remain safe in darker driving conditions.

Drivers need to adapt to darkness or fog related reduced visibility that can affect morning and evening commutes. Additional darkness also brings increased headlight use. You may experience a problem with glare from the high-tech headlights on the newer model vehicles. The high intensity discharge (HID) lights give out twice the light of conventional halogen headlights and produce a blue-white light. These lights give improved visibility to drivers who have them on their vehicle but drivers around these vehicles may experience glare problems. Don't forget to turn your lights off when you get to your destination in the morning. If you forget, you may return to your car to find a dead battery.

The main thing we need to do is to be cautious and alert. Children may be walking or biking home from after school events and may not be easily seen.

Just a few moments of extra caution may make all the difference in the world.
